How to Fall Asleep in Two Minutes

Even the heaviest of sleepers can struggle with insomnia from time to time. Whether it’s stress, health, or your environment keeping you awake, chasing those restful hours can sometimes be a monumental task.

But what if we told you that you could fall asleep within two minutes by using a trick?

According to the book Relax and Win: Championship Performance, the US military devised a failsafe strategy to help soldiers fall asleep to minimise the risk of mistakes being made due to sleep deprivation and exhaustion. Developed by army chiefs, this trick supposedly has a very high success rate, especially on those who practise the technique every day for six weeks.

The routine is very similar to a yoga Nidra session, so you may well recognise some of the steps!

Want to try? Here’s how it’s done:

- Focus on relaxing all of the muscles in the face, starting with the brow, the muscles around the eyes, cheeks, jaw, and tongue.

- Take a deep breath in and as you breathe out, actively relax all of the muscles in the shoulders, dropping them down as far as they will go.

- Fell the tops of your arms getting heavier, continue this feeling down through your elbows and right to the tops of your fingers.

- Take another deep breath in and as you breathe out, feel the muscles in your chest and abdomen relax, then relax the tops of your legs and work your way down to the tops of your toes.

- Spend 10 seconds clearing your mind, and then choose one of the following images:

  • Lying in a canoe on a calm lake watching a blue sky
  • Lying in a black velvet hammock in a pitch-black room

- Picture the words “don’t think” in your mind and say them over and over for around 10 seconds.

The technique is said to work on 96% of people who practice it before they sleep every single day for 6 weeks.

We want to know if you try the technique and if it works for you!
