ZEEQ was the smart pillow that put REM-Fit on the map in the sleep tech world. It is no longer made, and this page explains what it was, why people backed it, and why we chose to stop selling it.
Quick answer: ZEEQ was REM-Fit's smart pillow, launched on Kickstarter in July 2016. It played music through speakers only the sleeper could hear, tracked movement and snoring with built-in sensors, vibrated gently to nudge snorers into a new position, and woke you at the lightest point of your sleep cycle. It is no longer sold. REM-Fit now focuses on hybrid mattresses, pillows and protectors with no electronics to charge.
What did the ZEEQ smart pillow do?
ZEEQ combined five sleep gadgets in one pillow. Every feature was controlled from the ZEEQ app on your phone.
- Private music: Bluetooth speakers positioned inside the pillow so the sound was audible on the pillow and barely audible to a partner.
- Sleep tracking: 3D motion sensors and a microphone measured movement and snoring volume, producing a nightly SleepScore in the app.
- Snore response: when the microphone detected snoring, the pillow vibrated gently to encourage you to change position without fully waking you. Vibration strength was adjustable.
- Smart alarm: it woke you within a window at the lightest point of your sleep cycle, using vibration rather than sound.
- The pillow itself: a memory foam outer shell with adjustable comfort filling and a Tencel cover, sized 21 by 27 inches, charged by cable.
How was ZEEQ launched?
ZEEQ went live on Kickstarter in July 2016 with a $50,000 goal. It was funded within days and finished with more than 1,300 backers pledging over $250,000. The idea came from REM-Fit's director of technology, who wanted to fall asleep to music without disturbing his wife and built a speaker into his own pillow.
It went on to be a CES Innovation Awards Honoree, won the European Product Design Award 2017 and took silver at the International Design Awards 2017. In the UK it was featured on ITV and Channel 5's The Gadget Show, and exhibited at the Ideal Home Show in London in March 2018.
Why did REM-Fit stop making ZEEQ?
The concept was ahead of what the hardware could reliably deliver. Battery life, app connectivity and sensor accuracy did not meet the standard we expect of a product you sleep on every night, and we chose to stop selling it rather than keep supporting a product we were not proud of.
The same applied to our wearable sleep monitor from the same era, which we covered in our REM-Fit sleep monitor review. Sleep tracking has since moved to phones and watches, and a pillow no longer needs to do that job.
What did we learn from it?
The ZEEQ features people valued most were the ones that solved a sleep problem: staying cool, getting the right support, and snoring less. The data was interesting, but it did not change how anyone slept. That is what the current REM-Fit range is built around, with nothing to charge and nothing to pair.

Frequently asked questions
Can I still buy a ZEEQ smart pillow?
No. ZEEQ was discontinued and REM-Fit no longer makes or sells it. Any listings you find are second-hand.
Does the ZEEQ app still work?
The ZEEQ app is no longer supported by REM-Fit. Existing installs may continue to work on older phones, but we cannot guarantee it and there are no further updates.
What does REM-Fit recommend instead for snoring?
Side sleeping with a pillow that keeps your head and neck aligned reduces snoring for most people. A supportive memory foam pillow such as the 500 Cool Gel Pillow is the closest match to what ZEEQ was trying to do, without the electronics. If snoring is loud, frequent or you wake gasping, speak to your GP, as it can be a sign of sleep apnoea.
