So, what are the best exercises that you can do to make the most of your free fitness regime?


Push-ups are a great way to use your bodyweight to shape and tone your upper body. Start off by placing your hands directly underneath your shoulders and your feet hip-width apart, getting into a solid plank position. Lower yourself to the floor, keeping elbows close to your body and shoulders down and away from the ears. Repeat 20 times, increasing your repetitions gradually over the course of the next few weeks.


Planks are one of the best all-over body workouts and are particularly good for working on your core. Get into the same position as you did for your push-ups, squeeze your glutes, firm up your core muscles and hold the pose for 20 seconds. Every couple of days, add an extra 10 seconds on to your pose and build up to a two-minute plank.


If there’s one bodyweight exercise that will get your entire body aching, it’s a good old squat! Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, turning toes out slightly and keeping your knees in line with your toes. Bend the knees and, keeping a straight back, lower your body to the ground and back up again. Try not to let your knees go past your feet or lift your heels up from the ground. Repeat 20 times, increasing by 10 squats every few days over the course of the next few weeks.


By incorporating these exercises into your daily routine, you will begin to notice big changes in your fitness levels – without even stepping foot inside a gym!
