White noise
If you’re regularly disturbed by noisy neighbours, loud flatmates or noises from outside, white noise is one of the best ways to block out these disturbances. White noise is similar to the sound of static that comes from the radio or TV when it’s not tuned in properly. It is so great at blocking out noise because it contains a full spectrum of frequencies which work to cover up any other sounds. Install a white noise machine by your bedside or play rain or river sounds through your smart pillow to help you drift off.
Exercise
It’s proven that working out helps you to sleep more deeply, so try to step up your fitness routine to ensure that your body is really ready to sleep when you go to bed. Introduce a walk on your lunch break or start taking the stairs more to get those extra steps in.
Blackout
Light can be very disturbing for light sleepers, so try installing a blackout blind or blackout curtains in the bedroom to minimise light. If this isn’t possible, try using an eye mask instead.
Earplugs
Earplugs are a great way to block out any disturbances in the night. Whether you use silicon, wax, cotton or have some custom made, earplugs will help you to get a great night’s sleep.
Environment
Keep the thermostat low to avoid overheating in the night and make sure that your sleep surface is as comfortable as possible. If you’re waking up with aches and pains in the morning, then it might be time to upgrade your mattress and invest in a new one.
